Assistant Professor of Judaism and Sustainability

The Department for the Study of Religion at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Judaism with a focus on Sustainability. There is no geographical priority or methodological requirement. We seek candidates who specialize in the intersections of religion and environmental justice, feminist ecologies, ecologies of care, climate change, biocultural diversity, conservation, land use, or another subfield of critical sustainability studies, to begin Fall 2025. Proficiency in pertinent language/s is expected. The successful candidate will possess a clear research agenda evidenced by a history of or potential for significant scholarly contribution and public engagements in relevant venues. They will also be able to teach two particular courses—“Judaism” and “Nature, Spirituality, Ecology”—and they will have the requisite expertise to develop other classes related to the Study of Religion. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the Study of Religion or a related field by the time of appointment.
